Students Celebrate Excellent A Level and BTEC Results

Students Celebrate Excellent A Level and BTEC Results

In the Llandovery College Sixth Form, whether you study A levels or BTecs, expectations for attainment are high and we foster enquiring minds that relish the challenge of discovery. Students are immersed in an active and stimulating environment and benefit from a high-quality range of learning opportunities within a caring and supportive ethos. A student’s passion for their chosen subject brings a thirst for knowledge which blossoms into confidence in their subject. We nurture every student’s individual talents and provide a strong and supportive foundation where they are able to achieve their full potential.

Along with their chosen subjects we also provide other routes to develop students’ minds and thirst for knowledge such as Extended Project Qualifications. These additional options provide UCAS points and also allow students to develop a well-rounded and solid knowledge base as a springboard into their adult life.

At Llandovery College we provide a strong, supportive and nurturing environment where students enjoy small class sizes, intellectual rigour and have access to teachers beyond the classroom. With a wide range of A Level subjects to choose from we encourage our students to select subjects that excite them and that they enjoy as well as keeping in mind what career they intend to focus on later in life.

Taking A Levels at Llandovery College provides a pathway into some of the most respected universities in the UK and beyond. The vast majority of our A Level students are offered their first choice of university and we provide all the support and guidance needed and help our students secure their university choice.

Btecs are a vocational qualification where from which students can then move into higher education or employment. With specialist subject teachers we offer a strong range of subjects to stimulate and enthuse young minds. At Llandovery College we offer a popular BTec programme where students access a hands-on approach to learning. BTecs provide a learning environment where students can enjoy and flourish within a supportive and nurturing environment and access their teachers beyond the classroom. Students taking the BTec pathway can face the future with confidence having learnt about teamwork, organisation and leadership.

BTecs are recognised by universities and, for the students wishing to go on to higher education, we provide all the support and guidance needed to help them secure their university choice. Of those Llandovery College students who choose to go to university, the vast majority are offered their first choice.

Inclusion

Every student shines in their own individual way in the Sixth Form at Llandovery College and each one brings something special to the happy community of which we are so proud.

We have an all-encompassing ethos of inclusion meaning that all students, whether they have a specific learning need or are More Able and Talented, will have the opportunity to engage in education in a way that suits their individual needs.

The Inclusion Department promotes whole school responsibility for the effective support of all learners within the College community and regular training enables our staff to provide appropriate challenges and opportunities for success to help students recognise and plan for progress.
From the moment your child arrives at our school, we take the initiative to identify and track exceptional talents and abilities, allowing them to flourish and gain confidence from an early age. If your child has a particular talent or shows exceptional potential, this is recognised and encouraged. Your child is unique and we adapt our teaching to what is best for them.

Through our small class sizes, positive relationships and passion for bringing out the best in our pupils, our More Able and Talented programme is tailored to provide the highest level of support, guidance and encouragement to maximise the potential of your child.

We aspire to provide a rich, challenging and rewarding education for the most able. Stimulating pupils through varied and challenging curricular and co-curricular activities encouraging them to try new things and develop existing interests and skills allowing them to achieve their full potential.
We provide excellence through holistic education and believe in bespoke intervention for each and every pupil with additional learning needs. We achieve this by working closely with teachers, pupils and their families to provide an excellent and fluid programme.

Members of the Inclusion Department have specialist training in working with pupils who have specific and additional learning needs. We provide specialist 1:1 sessions, small group intervention and in-class support in specific subject lessons. Additionally, we support pupils in building a repertoire of examination and revision techniques which are specific to their individual learning style.

All members of our small and caring school community are actively informed and encouraged to participate fully in removing barriers to learning and allow every child to achieve their full potential.
